Cathleen's dream job
Eileen's career change

In Australia, WISE Employment has been providing specialist employment services to customers since 1992. Some of our customers share their story...

Cathleen nails the dream job

Tongue, nose, belly, lips. “Hey you’ve got to advertise!” exclaims Cathleen, as she runs through an inventory of body parts she’s had pierced. Conservative employers might raise an eyebrow at her list, but in Cathleen’s new job it’s almost part of the uniform.

After being unemployed and drifting between jobs that didn’t interest her, Cathleen has secured her dream job as a body piercer and retail assistant. “Two of my dreams have come true,” she says. “When I was younger, I always wanted to be a tattoo artist or a body piercer; something different like that. And work in retail too. I’m so lucky.”

Finding her new position started as a conversation between Cathleen and her consultant, Kim about finding work that would excite Cathleen. Together they prepared a résumé and rehearsed interview techniques. Then Kim approached the owner of a local body-piercing studio.

Cathleen’s persistence and optimism paid off. She began her new job on a trial basis. Within four weeks she was a trained body piercer. After three months she received a pay rise and now Cathleen has keys to the store and supervises staff. “One day I’d like to have my own studio,” she explains. “But I really like it here too, so if this is my future I’m happy.”
